Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

SERVPRO of St. Clair Shores Supports Businesses by Supporting the Remediation of Damage in Buildings.

Fire damage can put your employees out of the office and be a huge inconvenience to your company. Our teams at SERVPRO® of St. Clair Shores are ready to jump into action and help restore buildings and contents from fire and smoke damage, so your team can get back to work.

SERVPRO of St Clair Shores

Even a small fire can do enough damage to a building that the business must shut down for several days or (we hope not) weeks. At SERVPRO of St Clair Shores, we know that every day a business isn’t open is a day that the business is losing money.

The extent of the damage may not even be apparent at first. Smoke damage, especially from the more common types of fires, often gets worse over several days as the burned particles continue to accumulate. You may think you cleaned up the mess or eradicated the smell, only to find them returning, even worse, the next day. Smoke travels through the air and the air vents, amassing in corners and in hidden areas far from the original blaze.

That’s why we urge you to call us as soon as you can after even seemingly minor fire or smoke damage: 586-741-5050.

Call any time. Emergency services are always available.

Nothing to Sniff At

Smoke odors are as tenacious as toddlers trying to avoid diaper changes, kids angling to become only children, and dogs claiming that eight minutes between meals is too long.

Particles from smoke are lightweight, so they float easily through the air, and often oily, so they stick to window treatments, the insides of air ducts, upholstery, the ceiling, and equipment. Even paint can’t cover the smell of the lingering or recurring smoke odors.

SERVPRO of St. Clair Shores has seen – and smelled – the results of the “spray something pine-scented and hope no one notices” approach, and we can tell you it doesn’t work at all. Our approach has more steps, but (and this part is important) it works, so it must be done only once:

  • Find and remove all smoke and smoke damage.
  • Clean and disinfect the building(s), even crawl spaces, HVAC, between floor and subflooring, etc.
  • Clean and disinfect the equipment, furniture, flooring, and all other belongings.
  • If odors remain, use Ozoning equipment to eliminate the odors (eliminate, not mask).

Trivia Break

For reasons no one, not even the Trivia Team itself can discern, this week’s trivia focuses on the hamster.

Hamsters:

  • From the German word “hamstern,” means “hoard.”
  • They love to play with their humans, so plan time in late afternoon or early evening after they’ve had their proper rest.
  • They also love to be let out of the cage; mazes and hamster balls are great activities.
  • Can learn their own names.
  • Adore hiding
  • Need chew sticks and other toys because their teeth never stop growing.
